Anyone who loves the Tiger Lillies for their dark and funny stories about life, love and death will love Nigel Burch's cynical little songs of everyday madness and despair, performed with a madman's energy and a touch of the bizarre.
His flea-pit Orchestra play along with a wild and wonderful mixture of serene, devilishly angelic cello and fiddle, whacky, jolly drums & double bass, sneaky percussion and occasionally the rowdy accordion.
Their music could
be anywhere between a frantic George Formby and a music-hall minstrel band,
who have listened to the Pogues once too often - dancable and absolutely
enjoyable

» I USED
TO BE MAD «
© Nigel Burch:
I dressed like a scarecrow,
I walked like a crab,
back then I was bonkers,
back then I was mad!
I was thrown off of
busses, I was thrown out of bars
I was one big bad bastard
- but that's all in the past.
I used to be mad,
oh, I used to be mad
They put me in a mental
home away from home,
I used to be mad,
but now I'm so glad
My brain no longer has
a mind all of its own.
Well, I was a monster,
yes, I was a mess,
I danced down
the highstreets in my mother's dress
And I frightened children
and grown-ups as well,
I stank to high heaven
and I made their lives hell.
(...)
Every day, in every
way I'm getting better, getting better
Every
day, in every way I'm getting better, getting better
Every day, in every
way I'm getting better, getting better
Every
day, in every way I'm getting better, getting better
Every day,
in every way I'm getting better, getting better...
Every day,
in every way I'm getting better, getting better...
Every
day, in every way I'm getting better, getting better
Every day, in every
way I'm getting better, getting better
.
.
I used to be mad,
oh, I used to be mad
They put me in the house
upon the hill,
I used to be mad,
now, I'm not so bad
Just as long as I keep
on taking my pills.
Because - me,
I used to be MENTALLY
ill.
